What Is a Nut Driver?
The socket wrench’s smaller, more nimble cousin
A nut driver looks like a screwdriver but has a hex socket instead of a slotted or Phillips tip. It’s designed to tighten or loosen hex nuts, bolts, and small fasteners with more control and precision than a socket wrench — especially in tight spaces where bulkier tools can’t reach.
Nut drivers come in SAE and metric sizes and are typically sold in sets for full hex coverage.
Why Use a Nut Driver?
Precision, reach, and ergonomics where it matters most
Small Fasteners
Socket wrenches can be bulky and overpowered for delicate work. Nut drivers deliver the right amount of torque without risking overtightening or damaging the fastener — critical for electronics, HVAC, and appliance work.
Confined Spaces
Slim profiles and extended shafts reach fasteners buried deep inside machines or positioned in tight corners. Compact handles allow maneuverability where socket wrenches and power tools simply can’t go.
Speed & Comfort
Cushioned non-slip grips, color-coded handles for quick size identification, and smooth-turning shafts reduce wrist fatigue across long work sessions. Less fatigue, fewer stripped fasteners, faster work.
